Cruise activity is closer to returning to the Catalan capital after a long year of stoppage due to the pandemic. The Port of Barcelona is working on the protocols that must allow tourists to return by sea starting in June, as announced by its president, Mercè Conesa, in an interview on the 3/24 channel.
The enclave is defining the protocols that will facilitate the return of these ships in collaboration with administrations and shipping companies, establishing the necessary measures to guarantee the safety of both cruise passengers and Barcelona residents. For example, the creation of tourist bubble groups and the performance of PCR tests upon the arrival of ships and during their stay in the city are being considered.
The Port of Barcelona expects the Department of Health to approve these protocols for the reactivation of the sector this April, and subsequently, the Government will have to do so. It is also negotiating with the Barcelona City Council. Pilot tests of these protocols are planned with two cruise companies that usually operate in the Catalan capital.
