To foster new business opportunities, strengthen institutional relations, and facilitate the entry of Catalan companies. With these objectives, the Port de Barcelona has organized its annual business mission, this time destined for the Indian city of Mumbai, India's largest city and the country's commercial and cultural capital.
The delegation gathered by the port will present the Catalan capital to Indian companies as the southern gateway to the European market, and as an ideal distribution platform in the Mediterranean and North Africa. To this end, the members of the mission will showcase the maritime and land connectivity of Barcelona's port infrastructure. The connection with Spanish and European cities and interoceanic destinations in America and Asia allows the port to present itself as a hub for exchange with international markets.
The Port de Barcelona is connected to the ports of Mumbai and Nhava Sheva with four regular maritime services. In fact, currently, India is the second commercial ally of the port of the Catalan capital, with traffic close to 2.3 million tons annually and 131,000 containers.
Interest in trading with India grows as its economy does, positioning it as the new great economic power in the region. In this regard, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) forecasts that India's economy will grow by 6.3% this year and next, consolidating its leadership among emerging Asian countries.
Conferences and summits
The trip will begin next Monday and will be led by the president of the port, Lluís Salvadó, and the Minister of Territory of the Generalitat, Ester Capella. It will start with the inaugural conference India-Spain/Catalonia: new business opportunities, and the mission will also feature the presence of the president of the Port de Tarragona, Saül Garreta.
The stay in Mumbai will not only serve to explore these opportunities, but the Port de Barcelona will take advantage of the coincidence of the trip with the celebration of the Global Maritime India Summit 2023 to participate in the event with a stand and with various conferences given by members of the Catalan delegation.
