The Port of Barcelona says goodbye to cruises in docks close to the city

The transfer of 340 cruise and ferry calls from the WTC to the Adossat pier is a consequence of the agreement reached in 2018 by the Port and the City Council and will allow the space to be opened to the city

Goodbye to the last cruise ship that has docked at the Barcelona Nord terminal of the port of the Catalan capital, in the vicinity of the World Trade Center. This is an action that will involve the transfer of some 340 annual cruise and ferry calls to the Adossat dock. It will also allow the opening of this space to the public: 630 meters of dock line will be freed up and the city will gain 13,600 square meters of public space.

The cruise ship World Navigator, from the shipping company Mystic Cruises, was the last to depart from this terminal, and it did so in an act in which the president of the Port de Barcelona, Lluís Salvadó, described the day as "historic" and highlighted the future opening of this public space, planned once the America's Cup ends in autumn 2024.

The port authority and the Barcelona City Council agreed in 2018 to reorder cruise activity in the Catalan capital, limiting cruise terminals to seven and concentrating them at the Adossat dock. The agreement aimed to move the terminals closest to the city center to other docks, in order to move emission points away from the public.

The organization of cruise ships at the Port de Barcelona will not culminate with this action, but also includes the closure of the Barcelona Sud terminal in 2026. The transfer of all cruise operations will involve an investment of more than 270 million euros ---with 152 million in public investment and 125 in private investment---, which are added to 80 million that the Port de Barcelona allocates to the electrification of the Adossat dock, which will allow cruise ships to eliminate their emissions during their stay in port.
