The Port of Barcelona has awarded one of the preliminary works for the construction of the tracks and terminals of the new railway accesses, which will be located in the southern area of the infrastructure. The board of directors has chosen the UTE formed by Copcisa and Acciona Construcciones to build the platform on which the branches will be installed that will connect the accesses being developed by the Ministry of Transport with the port's internal railway network.

The works, with a budget of 25 million euros and an execution period of 24 months, also include the construction of a reception and dispatch terminal for the future Terminal Nou Llobregat railway complex. Likewise, they contemplate the relocation of all existing services in this space and the construction of the general drainage box.

The future railway hub of the Port of Barcelona is a set of infrastructures that will be made up of two reception and dispatch terminals; a loading and unloading terminal; and a piggyback terminal. One will be located parallel to the current course of the river, while the other three will be located in the old bed of the Llobregat river. These railway terminals will be complemented by others already built and operational, that of BEST in Moll Prat and Terminal C for dispatch and reception.

In addition to the progress in railway accesses, the board of directors has also initiated the tender to rehabilitate the Portal de la Pau building, the historic headquarters of the Port of Barcelona. With a budget of 17 million euros and an execution period of 18 months, the works will consist of reinforcing the building's structure and restoring the interior and exterior architectural elements and all facilities. Once rehabilitated, this building will house the Port Interpretation Center, a space that will be dedicated to explaining the operation of this infrastructure.

The rehabilitation will coincide with the celebration of the America's Cup of Sailing. To minimize the impact, the tender contemplates the suspension of the work during the competition days, between August 1 and October 31, 2024, and a success premium that will be paid to the construction company if it finishes the restoration of the main and side facades before July 31, 2024.
