After an investment of 20 million euros, the Hines group is culminating the renovation of Diagonal Vertical, the iconic skyscraper located at number 407 of Diagonal avenue and known as the Banco Sabadell Tower, until the entity sold it in 2021 to the global real estate investment and management firm.

The renovation, carried out by the architecture studio Batlle i Roig and the interior design studio Buckley Gray Yeoman, is already finished, and the final details are pending for companies to start moving into the building in November, with rents exceeding 40 euros per square meter, a record figure in the Barcelona office market.

While the final touches are being made, the building is already starting to attract its future tenants. Banco Sabadell itself will occupy four floors of the tower, including a new private banking hub on the ground floor. In addition to the banking entity, the international insurance company Sompo will also move into the building, according to market sources consulted. The company, which employs more than 9,000 people in 25 countries, will rent three floors of the building, equivalent to about 1,500 square meters.

The building totals 11,823 square meters distributed over 24 floors that rise up to 83 meters high, and will thus host new companies for the first time since its construction in 1969: first it was the headquarters of Banco Atlántico, which was acquired in 2004 by Banco Sabadell. The operation also led to the renaming of the emblematic Diagonal tower, located at the intersection with Balmes street and designed by Santiago Balcells and Francesc Mitjans.

Thus, after 55 years as the exclusive headquarters of the banking entity, the property opens a new stage in which it will house other companies, which will have state-of-the-art services, such as its own app for users, a sky lobby with reception, meeting rooms, an exclusive gym for tenants and two green terraces: one on the third floor and another on the rooftop, with panoramic views over the city. Despite renovating its interior, the building will maintain its characteristic glass facade, which will be covered with photovoltaic glass and vegetation with native species.

Due to its location and with the renovation, the building is positioned as an "ideal enclave for companies," defended Vanessa Gelado, head of Hines in Spain. According to Gelado, it will be "a unique building adapted to the needs of the future of offices," in a Barcelona that will add more than 115,000 square meters of new office space this year.
