The Norwegian Visma buys the Barcelona 'startup' Holded

The enterprise software startup, which will maintain its independence, will accelerate its growth and hire 300 workers

The Barcelona entrepreneurial ecosystem continues to attract the interest of foreign companies. The startup Holded has just been acquired by Visma, a Norwegian technology group specialized in software, with more than 12,000 employees and sales of 1.7 billion.

Hand in hand with Visma, the Barcelona-based company will have the opportunity to accelerate its growth in Spain, a market in which the new owner did not operate until now. Holded, founded in 2016 by Javi Fondevila and Bernat Ripoll, is dedicated to offering ERP software to small and medium-sized companies. Since its creation, its enterprise resource planning solutions have reached more than 80,000 companies and now the experience of the Norwegian group should help them consolidate their position.

"We believe that Visma is the perfect partner for this new stage. Holded will have the support and experience of one of the leading European companies in our sector," explains Fondevila. Both he and Ripoll will continue to lead the company, which will continue its activity as an independent organization after the purchase.

With the acquisition, Holded expects to hire 300 workers. Recently, the company had expanded its offices in the Ocean building in Barcelona to have more space, after an investment of 300,000 euros.

The startup, which has not yet registered profits, raised a total of 15 million this February in its fourth round, led by the venture capital firm Elaia. Lakestar and Nauta Capital also participated, as they had done in previous rounds.
