The neobank Qonto chooses Barcelona to locate its headquarters in Spain

The French startup will have its offices near the Barcelona Stock Exchange, with an initial staff of 30 employees

Startup companies focused on digitizing the world of finance, known as fintech, are among those with the most ground to cover in Barcelona's entrepreneurial world. This is demonstrated by Barcelona Tech City having chosen this sector to promote one of its hubs at the Barcelona Stock Exchange.

In this proliferation of initiatives taking place in the city, the French neobank has chosen Barcelona as the headquarters for its office in Spain, where it has been operating since June 2019. And, precisely, it has decided to locate on Paseo de Gràcia, near the Stock Exchange.

This neobank specializes in offering services to companies, startups, and freelancers, simplifying and automating the financial tasks they have to face. The startup is in full expansion. After exceeding 150,000 clients in Europe, the inauguration of the headquarters in the Catalan capital coincides with the establishment of two more delegations in Milan and Berlin.

All of them join those the company has in Paris, the startup's city of origin. "After opening physical offices in Barcelona, Milan, and Berlin, we are taking another step in our international development and growth," explains Qonto's CEO and co-founder, Alex Prot.

In Barcelona, Qonto will be led by Carles Marcos and will have an initial staff of about 30 employees, expected to reach 100 by 2023. Globally, the company has 300 employees and expects to reach 450 during 2021. Since its inception, Qonto has raised 136 million euros in different funding rounds, with the support of investors such as Tencent, DST Global, Alvén, Valar, and the European Investment Bank (EIB).
