Barcelona consolidates its weight in the gastronomic universe with six establishments recognized in the 2026 edition of the MICHELIN Guide. Three restaurants in the city —Enigma, Mont Bar, and Aleia— have achieved their second star, while Kamikaze and Scapar join the guide with their first. Outside the capital, La Boscana, in Bellvís (Lleida), has also been distinguished with two stars, confirming the drive of Catalan cuisine beyond the usual circuits.
Also noteworthy are five new Catalan additions to the Bib Gourmand category: Bardeni Caldeni, Glug, and Oníric (Barcelona), Urbisol (Calders), and L'Hostal de Ca L'Enric (La Vall de Bianya). A selection that rewards places with good value for money.
With these novelties and the loss of three establishments (Oria, Aürt, and Teatro Kitchen Bar, due to closure or restructuring), Barcelona totals 28 restaurants with a MICHELIN star and 41 stars in the 2026 edition. The gala confirms a clear trend: the consolidation of already awarded projects and the entry of new proposals with their own identity and very personal leaderships.
Shower of second stars in Barcelona
One of the big names of the gala was Albert Adrià, which obtained the second star for Enigma, his most personal project. "It has been a surprise. I didn't expect it. Thank you very much," he said upon receiving the white jacket. The red guide defines his establishment as "a singular and truly unique restaurant; heir to the mythical elBulli," and highlights its technical excellence and a 25-course menu with visual elaborations and an integrated scenic component. Also got the second star Aleia, the project of Paulo Airaudo in Casa Fuster, with chef Rafa de Bedoya at the helm. The restaurant offers a unique contemporary tasting menu, based on local produce and refined technique. Bedoya dedicated the recognition to the team and his mentor.
Mont Bar, led by chef Fran Agudo, completes the Barcelona triad. The guide defines it as a space "halfway between a restaurant and a gastrobar", with signature tapas and a menu where creative snacks represent half of the offering. Among the proposals, the sobrasada and Mahón cheese mochi or the espardenyes a la carbonara stand out. "Thanks to the team that makes the effort to keep going," Agudo said on stage.
Beyond Barcelona, Joel Castanyé moved the audience when collecting the second star for La Boscana, in Bellvís (Lleida). "I want to thank my mother, who at 82 years old is still fighting, my father from above, my wife, the team and Pla d'Urgell. Rural life is wonderful," he declared. The guide highlights the "integrated experience in the heart of nature", with a garden, pond and a gastronomic proposal that takes care of both technique and staging.
Also noteworthy was the recognition of Catalan chef Ramon Freixa, who achieved the second star for his restaurant in Madrid, Ramon Freixa Atelier, with a dedication in Catalan: "This is for you, parents."
First star for Kamikaze and Scapar
Kamikaze, located in the Eixample, has received its first star. The project of chef Enric Buendía, trained at Mugaritz and Disfrutar, combines Japanese techniques and Mediterranean flavors in two tasting menus. The MICHELIN guide highlights "a creativity that revisits Asian gastronomy from a strong Mediterranean imprint", with dishes such as Catalan mochi with sea urchin, pandan shrimp, bulgogi pâté or asparagus with miso and strawberry.
Also entering the guide for the first time is Scapar, the omakase of chef Koichi Kuwabara, a former member of Dos Palillos. The restaurant offers a surprise menu where the chef himself explains each dish, emphasizing seasonality, local produce, and the transmission of knowledge. The guide defines it as an example of fusion between Japanese kaiseki cuisine and Catalan identity, with "precise and sensitive" execution. Kuwabara did not attend the gala, being the only awarded chef who did not collect the white chef's jacket.
An edition with consolidated criteria
Although it began with apparent discretion, the gala closed with Catalonia as one of the great protagonists. The distinctions have followed a coherent line: they reward personal projects, with their own discourse and consolidated trajectories. Many of the award winners had already been recognized previously and have seen their position strengthened with a second star. This is a clear commitment to continuity, technical rigor, and creative maturity. In the total count, the 19 restaurants in Barcelona with one MICHELIN star are: Caelis, Moments, Koy Shunka, Dos Palillos, Alkimia, Angle, Prodigi, Slow & Low, Kamikaze, Fishølogy, Atempo, Hofmann, COME by Paco Méndez, Hisop, Quirat, Scapar, MAE Barcelona, Via Veneto and Suto. The 5 restaurants with two stars are: Mont Bar, Aleia, Enigma, Cinc Sentits and Enoteca Paco Pérez. And the 4 restaurants with three stars are: Lasarte, Disfrutar, Cocina Hermanos Torres and ABaC.
Approach between cuisine and art
This year's gala took place in Sohrlin Andalucía, a space dedicated to artistic creation promoted by Antonio Banderas and Domingo Merlín. The actor from Malaga vindicated the parallels between cooking and theater: recipes as scripts, the restaurant as a stage. This spirit permeated the entire ceremony, which highlighted the capacity of contemporary cuisine to dialogue with other creative languages. The relationship between set design, narrative, and emotion became explicit in many of the awarded projects, almost becoming a common thread throughout the gala. In this context, the Mentor Chef award to Quique Dacosta served as a declaration of intent: to recognize a career that has defended gastronomy as a total form of artistic expression, capable of moving, inspiring, and narrating from the craft.
