The Mediterranean Corridor closed 2024 with an investment of 1,280 million euros. This figure represents 33% more than the previous year, when the works executed reached 964 million, and includes works in La Sagrera, with an execution of 90 million this year.
During this year, 65 contracts referring to the railway infrastructure have been tendered. For a total of 1,400 million euros, these tendered contracts represent 11.3% more than those of the previous year, according to data from the Ministry of Transport.
With this year's works, the infrastructure has made a relevant step in La Sagrera: in August, a testing phase was launched with the aim that high-speed trains would start circulating inside the station by the end of the year.
In addition, four tracks for parking trains from the entire network will also come into operation, which will help decongest Sants station. The forecast is that the entire structure of the station and its tracks will be completed in 2026, pending the architectural work of the station, for which there is still no date.
Thus, with the investment executed this year, the deployment of the Mediterranean Corridor continues to advance, although the pace is not what is desired by the territories whose connectivity with high speed needs to be improved.
With initiatives such as the one promoted by Foment del Treball and the Valencian Association of Businessmen in October in front of Sants Station, businessmen are also a permanent visible part of this demand to accelerate the works, to have a key railway infrastructure for the economy.
