The La Caixa Foundation increases its budget for social, scientific, and educational initiatives. This 2025, the foundation will allocate up to 655 million euros, 9% more than the previous year when it invested 600 million, a figure that represents the highest investment in the entity's entire history. In total, over the last decade, the foundation has allocated more than 5,000 million euros to social action.
Of the total budget planned for this year, approximately 60%, more than 370 million euros, will be allocated to social programs, linked to child poverty, job creation for people in vulnerable situations, active aging, or the care of people with advanced diseases.
"We want to provide lasting solutions to improve the quality of life for all people, especially the most vulnerable," defended the president of the La Caixa Foundation, Isidro Fainé. Another 20% of the investment, about 130 million euros, will be allocated to initiatives for the dissemination of culture and science, through the entity's CaixaForum and CosmoCaixa centers, as well as the creation of itinerant exhibitions, the programming of concerts and conferences, or the Caixaforum+ audiovisual platform.
The research and health area will receive another 16% of the total budget, which will be invested in calls for research projects or in the development of the CaixaResearch Institute. The remaining budget, about 49 million euros, will be allocated to scholarships ---undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral--- and to the entity's education program.
During 2024, the foundation served more than 235,000 beneficiaries in Spain and Portugal through its direct social intervention programs. Specifically, more than 65,000 children and adolescents and 41,000 families at risk of social exclusion were served during the previous year, as well as more than 36,000 patients with advanced diseases and their families. In addition, through the Incorpora program, for the employment of people in vulnerable situations, up to 40,000 jobs were created in more than 15,000 companies. The social calls reached 25 years of history, a quarter of a century in which some 23,000 projects have been promoted and up to 10 million people have been served.
The La Caixa Foundation has also closed the year with good visitor numbers to its cultural and scientific dissemination centers. More than nine million people visited CaixaForum and CosmoCaixa centers last year, a number of visitors that represents a 12.1% increase compared to 2023, with the CosmoCaixa Science Museum in Barcelona being the most visited center, having received more than 1 million visits during 2024.
