The Generalitat will allocate a total of 8.4 million euros to the cultural world to alleviate the effects of the pandemic and the new restrictions approved in Catalonia to contain the spread of the coronavirus. Two lines of subsidies will be opened to help those workers and companies affected by the crisis the sector is experiencing. These aids are part of the declaration of culture as an "essential good" that the Government made last September, with the aim of preserving the sector and guaranteeing its survival.

A first line, endowed with 3.7 million euros, will serve to compensate for losses due to the cancellation of shows and cultural activities. Self-employed workers, companies and non-profit entities can apply for it, and they will have to prove the services for which they had been hired or to which they had committed. The second line of aid, with 4.7 million, will support the financing of operating expenses of cultural companies and entities during the health crisis. It is designed for film exhibition halls, independent distribution companies or companies that contract concerts or own venues.
The Government has also approved new aid for self-employed workers hit by the Covid-19 crisis, with 20 million euros. Up to 10,000 people will be able to benefit from aid of 2,000 euros in a single payment, provided they are registered in the Special Regime for Self-Employed Workers (RETA). The Department of Labor seeks to promote the maintenance of economic activity, as it already did in March with a similar benefit, endowed at that time with 7.5 million euros.
