The La Confiteria group, with its cocktails and platillos served in classic settings that intertwine history with sophistication, will be in charge of bringing the Font del Gat restaurant in Montjuïc back to life. After nearly four years of abandonment and inactivity following its closure due to the pandemic, the restaurant will once again serve as a privileged viewpoint of the city, thanks to the group's gastronomic proposal.
La Confiteria, which manages 15 venues in Barcelona, has taken over the operation of the restaurant through a bidding process opened by the City Council, in which only its proposal competed. The reopening date is, however, still to be determined. After closing this tender, there will still be pending procedures, in addition to the interior adaptation of the premises to accommodate this new gastronomic proposal, which replaces a previous one based on traditional yet modern Catalan cuisine.
The venues managed by La Confiteria have as a common denominator their cocktail bars and the uniqueness of their spaces and proposals, many of which have recovered iconic establishments in the city. In fact, the group was born in 2014, when Enric Rebordosa and Lito Baldovinos decided to convert the modernist venue La Confiteria into a classic cocktail bar. Since then, the group has added establishments, including the iconic Paradiso, which in 2022 was named the best cocktail bar in the world by The World's 50 Best Bars ranking, and Monk, hidden inside a grocery store.
The reopening of the establishment will once again make an exceptional gastronomic viewpoint of the Catalan capital available to Barcelonans and visitors alike. The Font del Gat restaurant will have an indoor area of almost 100 square meters, in addition to a 240 square meter terrace. The tender has been resolved after the public company Barcelona de Serveis Municipals (B:SM), responsible for the management of the space, promoted in September the rehabilitation of the building, a work by Josep Puig i Cadafalch from 1918. These works have included the repair of the facade and the main garden, with a budget of 470,900 euros.
After this external rehabilitation of the property, carried out by the Feu Godoy Arquitectes studio, it will be the turn of the adaptation of its interior, which will be carried out by the new operator of the restaurant. The contract has an estimated value of 22,800 euros, and establishes that the space will be initially ceded for a decade, which raises the bidding amount without taxes to a total of 228,000 euros. The award includes a guaranteed monthly fee of 2,500 euros.
The works and the resumed activity of the restaurant will allow the recovery of a modernist building that, located in the Jardins de Laribal, represents an emblem of noucentisme. The reopening of the establishment will once again make an exceptional gastronomic viewpoint of the Catalan capital available to Barcelona residents and visitors.
