The Fishermen's Dock stalls debut flexible photovoltaic panels

Manufactured with an innovative organic and ultralight material, they will generate 11% of the ice factory's consumption and are the first step to creating the first energy community in the Port of Barcelona

The Port of Barcelona has inaugurated photovoltaic panels on the roof of the small houses on the Fishermen's Wharf. These are innovative panels because they are made with organic materials, are very light and flexible, and adapt to the undulation of the roofs of the houses without additional support structures. They have been developed by the German manufacturer Heliatek.

The installed structure has a power of 29.5 kWp and is estimated to generate 5% of the total consumption of the Fishermen's Wharf and 11% of the ice factory's consumption. This action is the first step to create the first energy community of the Port of Barcelona and is part of the transformation plan of the Fishermen's Market of Port Vell.

In the short term, the renewable electricity generated by this first group of panels on the houses of the Fishermen's Wharf will be connected to two others that will be placed in the box of the Fishermen's Guild and the net shed. The next step will be to install a pergola with photovoltaic modules in the net yard. And, in parallel, 45 kWh capacity batteries are being installed to store surplus photovoltaic production, reports ACN.

The Port of Barcelona is part of a European project to develop local energy communities coordinated by Comsa Corporación. The Fishermen's Wharf is one of the four pilot locations of the program, along with the Jesenice steel plant in Slovenia; the Temse industrial park in Belgium, and an installation in the municipality of Tartu, in Estonia.
