The first film dubbed into Catalan to be released directly on the platform arrives on Netflix

The Mitchells vs. the Machines can now be watched on home screens. The Generalitat is in talks with the platform to incorporate more content in Catalan.

The Mitchells vs. the Machines has become the first film dubbed into Catalan to be released directly on Netflix, without having been previously screened in cinemas or on television. The film has been dubbed into Catalan by Sony Pictures thanks to a grant from the Generalitat. Since 2013, this production and distribution company has released ten films dubbed into Catalan in cinemas, with the support of Linguistic Policy, such as Angry Birds, Hotel Transylvania, Spiderman, Into the Spider-Verse, The Smurfs, and Emoji.

The film that has just been added to the Netflix catalog tells the story of an eccentric family's road trip as they try to save the world. They face the threat of a robotic apocalypse and, without realizing it, become the last hope for all humanity.

The film also becomes one of the few films dubbed into Catalan that Netflix offers, according to Plataforma per la Llengua. The association warns that Netflix has more than 326 titles in its catalog that have a dubbed or subtitled version in Catalan, but does not offer them in this language. For this reason, it asks the Generalitat to take the necessary steps to increase this offer. From the Department of Culture, it is indicated that conversations have been ongoing for some time with the platform to incorporate more content in Catalan.
