Barcelona continues to position itself as the reference capital for technology companies that decide to establish themselves in Spain. The Swiss technology company Utopia Music has just announced the signing of a professional with a long career in the music industry, Rosa Martínez, to lead its operations in the Spanish market from an office located in Barcelona.

Utopia Music defines itself as a musical fintech that was born in 2016 with the aim of creating "a new ecosystem" for the music industry, generating new sources of income and "drastically reducing the restrictive administrative limitations created by outdated systems." The challenge is to achieve the so-called Fair Pay for Every Play thanks to a technological and big data system that monitors global music consumption in real time.

With a presence in Switzerland, Sweden, Finland, the United Kingdom, the USA and now Spain, Utopia Music employs more than 200 people. According to the startup, the music industry "presents systems inherited from the past that slow it down and hinder the prosperity of creators." "For musicians, considering that it can take us years to get paid, the fact that we have no idea when someone uses our music and that a large part of the income disappears in administrative costs, can drive us crazy. Especially because we know it can be fixed. We need to correct the data gap and automate the industry," explain the founders of Utopia Music. The company's motto is "we know what is listened to, when and where."

The new director for Spain, Rosa Martínez, has worked for the last 20 years in London, where she has held executive positions in companies such as Ticketmaster, CTS Eventim (Entradas.com), BMG Music or AXS, where she created campaigns for the tours of artists such as Taylor Swift, Andrea Bocelli, Miley Cyrus or Ed Sheeran.

"I have dedicated my professional life to finding new sources of income for musicians, creators and their teams. So when Roberto Neri, general manager of operations at Utopia Music, shared the company's vision with me, I knew that Fair Pay for Every Play is a project I want to be a part of. Furthermore, it is a great honor for me to return to my country and work in the Spanish market," Martínez highlighted.
