The Swedish fashion chain H&M will close its central offices for Spain, located on Canuda Street in Barcelona, to move to a new and spacious area in 22@, during the first quarter of 2022. The brand has leased from Conren Tramway about 4,100 square meters in an office building under construction at number 180 Calle Pallars, which will be available from next February.
The brand had already proceeded in early 2021 to close the megastore establishment it had on the ground floor of the building on Canuda Street, which is on the corner with Avenida Portal de l'Àngel, coinciding with the sale of the building ---owned by a family office--- to the British fund BMO Real Estate Partners, for 80 million euros. The building on Canuda Street, which the Disney brand also recently left, will undergo a comprehensive renovation.
The 22@ building, with a total area of close to 10,000 square meters, is a project by BAAS Arquitectura, which includes changing rooms and showers for building users, outdoor areas, and parking for cars and bicycles. The property has sustainability, energy, and environmental efficiency standards, as well as open-plan spaces.
The Swedish multinational has also proceeded this year to close the store it had open since 2008 in the historic building designed by the architect Josep Domènech in the 19th century and headquarters of the former company Catalana de Gas (origin of the current Naturgy) a few meters from its central offices, on the same Avenida Portal de l'Àngel. This commercial space will be occupied by the fashion brand Lefties, the Inditex group brand that was born as a Zara outlet, which will open a flagship store.
During 2021, and due to the losses recorded in the business as a result of the impact of the coronavirus pandemic, the H&M chain has proceeded to a reorganization of its store network in Spain, which has led to the closure of 27 establishments and the application of an Employment Regulation File (ERE) for some 350 workers.
