Two projects with English names but with a 100% Barcelona identity. The digital newspaper The New Barcelona Post adds the collaboration of The Barcelonian, an artistic initiative that has been reflecting its particular way of seeing Barcelona for years on the covers of an imaginary weekly magazine that wants to pay tribute to the city that gives it its name.

With free illustrations that convey how the artists who shape each cover feel Barcelona, The Barcelonian finds its origins in The New Yorker. It started as a game, as its promoter, Luisa Vera, recalls. Rereading old issues of the American magazine in the midst of the pandemic, she began to draw how she saw a confined city, with masks and restrictions, and a lot of boredom.

It premiered in mid-June 2020 and, from there, it grew, adding more illustrators when Vera had already told everything. With several exhibitions under its belt, at Illa Diagonal, Centre Cívic Urgell and Casa Seat, the artistic initiative even has its own book, co-edited by Factoría Cultural Martínez, the company that leads the project, and the Barcelona City Council. As if that weren't enough, The Barcelonian has ended up becoming a movement that has spread to other Spanish cities.

With COVID increasingly assimilated, The Barcelonian began to open up to other themes, always giving creative freedom to illustrators to express their point of view and with the sole premise of having to talk about the Catalan capital, regardless of their style or whether they were veterans or emerging.

Starting Monday, April 1, its covers will also illustrate a real magazine like The New Barcelona Post, accompanying its creativity with the reflections of our journalists. Every week, The Barcelonian's illustrations will be the protagonists of a current affairs article, transforming into phrases what is seen in its drawings, always so relevant.

In addition, the collaboration between The New Barcelona Post and The Barcelonian will result in specific illustrations for the newspaper on special dates such as La Mercè. Undoubtedly, a clear commitment for local artists who are part of the initiative spontaneously promoted during the pandemic to find new ways to make their creations known.
