The company that produces Oxford notebooks invests 4.5 million in Flaçà

Hamelin Brands Iberica will have an annual capacity to manufacture 30 million notebooks

The colorful Oxford spiral notebooks are manufactured in Flaçà (Girona). They are produced by what was Enri 2000, a Catalan company of the Torraspapel group. Founded in 1939, it created the stationery brand Enri and became part of the French group Hamelin Brands in 1993. Under this umbrella, the company began to centralize the production of this type of Oxford notebooks for Hamelin Brands, becoming the group's largest factory specialized in this product, ahead of those in France, Germany, and Poland.

After an investment that will amount to 4.5 million euros ---initially it was going to be 3 million euros---, the Flaçà plant will be able to manufacture seven million Oxford notebooks, reaching an annual capacity of 30 million notebooks by next year. The executed investment will also allow for the expansion of Hamelin Brands Iberica's offices in the Girona town, as well as the shipping and storage capacity, an essential part of its production chain, considering that it is a very seasonal sector. In total, the company's headquarters will have about 25,000 square meters. The workforce will also be expanded, increasing from the current 120 workers to 140 in 2023.

For Hamelin Brands Iberica, Oxford represents 80% of its business. In second place, and at a great distance, with 10%, is the historic brand Enri. The remaining 10% corresponds to products that the company manufactures for third parties. Last year, it invoiced almost 40 million euros, the highest figure in its history. According to the general director, Josep Buixeda, it will again set a revenue record this 2022, approaching 50 million euros.

The growth that the company is registering is accompanied by an international expansion plan. In addition to Spain and Portugal, Hamelin Brands Iberica exports its Oxford notebooks to countries such as France, Italy, Germany, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Canada. Recently, it has reached Mexico, achieving an export turnover of 14 million euros, 70% more than a year ago. Buixeda points out that the next step will continue in Latin America, focusing on large countries such as Brazil, Colombia, Peru, and Chile, either with acquisitions of other companies or by directly exporting the product.
