For the second consecutive year, the Círculo Ecuestre organizes the exhibition By Invitation, an event that aims to "be a reference in the international art world" in which twenty-two renowned art galleries participate and where a thousand works of modern and contemporary art will be exhibited.
The entity will host in its headquarters, between December 15 and 19, works by recognized creators and contemporary artists from art galleries and, as a novelty, it will feature a unique collection of pieces from Egyptian, Greek, and Roman civilizations, in addition to a selection of pre-Columbian tapestries, some of which date back to the 10th century.
In the historic Casa Pérez Samanillo, located on one of the chamfers of Balmes street with Diagonal Avenue, one can see everything from pieces by creators of the stature of Dalí, Picasso, Miró, Tàpies, Plensa or Barceló, to a good number of contemporary artists from renowned art galleries such as Baró Galería, Espacio Lobo, Galería Art Petritxol, Galería Carlos Teixidó, Galería Cortina, Galería David Cervelló, Galería Dolors Junyent, Galería F. Cervera, Galería Joan Gaspar, Galería Jordi Pascual, Galería Jorge Alcolea, Galería Marc Calzada, Galería Mar Doménech, Galería Marlborough, Galería Mayoral, Galería de Arte Roger Viñuela, Galería Senda, Galería Víctor Lope, Imaginart Gallery, LAB36, Lorena Ruiz de Villa and Pigment Gallery.
Coinciding with the exhibition, a tribute event to Juana de Aizpuru, renowned art gallerist and founder of the Arco fair, will take place on Friday, December 17, as specified by Enrique Lacalle, curator of the exhibition and vice president of the Círculo Ecuestre. Also scheduled for the same Friday is the visit of the Minister of Culture and Sport, Miquel Iceta.
The exhibition will feature a unique collection of art pieces from Egyptian, Greek, and Roman civilizationsLikewise, a series of conferences on the current state of the world of culture and contemporary art have been organized. The first of these will be held on the 15th, with a dialogue between Ainhoa Grandes, president of MACBA, and journalist Màrius Carol. One day later, on December 16, another meeting will be held with the participation ofMiguel Falomir, director of the Prado Museum, and the journalist and writer Sergio Vila-Sanjuán.
The extensive program of this year's edition demonstrates, according to Lacalle, the consolidation of this initiative, after the success achieved in 2019, when it featured fifteen galleries. "For the second consecutive year, we bring back to Barcelona a great exhibition of modern and contemporary art with top-level galleries, as a meeting point for gallerists, collectors, and attendees interested in art," he states.
For his part, Antonio Delgado, president of the Círculo Ecuestre, values the entity's contribution to the city's cultural sector and highlights that the institution possesses a unique and valuable art collection. Delgado also recalls that By Invitation was born at a difficult time during the pandemic "with the aim of supporting the art world, and now the club is becoming a reference actor among international art events held in Spain, valued by both gallerists and art enthusiasts."
