The gaming sector adds another player in Barcelona. The Chinese company Lilith has chosen the Catalan capital to establish itself in Europe after studying its strong video game ecosystem. The landing has been made through investment in a local studio, XRON, located in the Eixample. To establish itself in the city, the Asian company has had the support of Acció.
Lilith and XRON have reached a collaboration agreement to promote joint projects. Thus, if until now Lilith specialized mainly in mobile video games, with this commitment from Barcelona they will focus on the development of premium video games for PC and other multiplatform. Based on Lilith's investment, the Barcelona studio plans to expand its team, until now made up of four workers, with the aim of doubling the workforce in a first phase.
For Lilith's head of investments, Ou Ya, "Barcelona is a city with a strong artistic atmosphere and has an excellent talent hub in the field of design, which offers the necessary conditions for the development of the video game industry." Until now, the Shanghai-based company only had a presence outside Asia in Los Angeles. In the American city, it has its own international publishing and promotion team. There it also allied with a local studio for the development of cloud video games.
Lilith is headquartered in Shanghai and has studios in Beijing and Shenzhen, as well as subsidiaries in Seoul, Singapore, and Tokyo. Founded in 2013, the company has a global workforce of 2,300 employees and billed 1 billion dollars last year. Among the main video games from the Chinese studio are Rise of Kingdoms, AFK Arena, and Tales of the Mirror.
