The public network of electric charging points in Barcelona, dependent on B:SM, continues to consolidate and surpass its records. Over the first six months of the year, it has recorded the record figure of more than 68,000 charges, 40% more compared to the same period in 2022.
This growth has also been reflected in the users who use the electromobility network daily, reaching almost 18,000, 32.5% more than a year ago, when, in turn, they doubled. In addition, the supply has risen to 777,324 kWh, 62% more than in the first half of 2022.
"The growth figures of Endolla Barcelona are a reflection of the public leadership that Barcelona is exercising in the deployment of electromobility in southern Europe." With more than 700 charging points, the Barcelona network is the largest in Spain. At the European level, with 12.5 public use points per square kilometer and one charging point for every 16.5 existing electric vehicles, the Catalan capital is in second position with the highest number of charging points per km2, behind Stockholm, and fourth in number of points per inhabitant, preceded by Stockholm, Gothenburg, and Oslo.
Even so, the electromobility network will continue to expand in 2023. "The network continues to grow equitably in all neighborhoods and anticipates demand to accompany citizens in the transition towards the electric vehicle," explains Bonet. B:SM's forecast is to reach 1,000 operational charging points throughout the year, adding a total of 283 new points across the city. In fact, the City Council is executing a plan to expand public chargers, investing 12 million euros to increase them.
The nearly 300 new points will be located in B:SM car parks, where 7 out of every 10 existing points are already concentrated, with the aim of ensuring a homogeneous expansion throughout all the city's neighborhoods. It also serves to minimize the occupation of public space and encourage planned charging during off-peak hours. On the other hand, the offer of street charging points, designed for unplanned fast charges, will remain stable.
