At a time when e-commerce is booming, the cloud payment management company Checkout.com has opened an office in Barcelona, which will serve as the company's headquarters for Southern Europe, specifically for Spain, Portugal, Greece, and Italy. It has already hired four employees in Barcelona, but in the short term, it expects to reach 20.
Founded in 2012 by Guillaume Pousaz and headquartered in London, Checkout.com provides the payment platform for virtual purchases to companies such as Mango, Glovo, Veepee, Fintonic, and Freshly Cosmetics. Its service allows payments in e-commerce and accepts multiple methods, including major international credit and debit cards.
"Adapting our proposal to the local characteristics of each market means that payments are not a barrier to the scalability of fast-growing online businesses, allowing them to unlock more revenue opportunities and offer customers a seamless payment experience," explains Checkout.com's Europe Director, Antoine Nougué. "Our local team in Southern Europe brings deep insight and knowledge to those e-commerce businesses that want to expand and grow. We have witnessed explosive growth across the region, with more companies investing in their e-commerce strategies," he continues.
In fact, it is clear that expansion opportunities for companies dedicated to the e-commerce sector have grown drastically in recent years, and the pandemic has accelerated this process. The e-commerce adoption rate in Spain is 58%; in Italy, 52%, and in Greece, 50%, numbers that clearly demonstrate the great growth opportunities in this sector.
"The pandemic has accelerated the adoption of digital payments across the Southern European region, some companies have digitized overnight and others have seen that process accelerate. Checkout.com's growing presence in the region will support companies in this digital transformation," says Checkout.com's General Manager for Southern Europe, Jonathan G. Rambal.
The British multinational currently has 18 offices worldwide and a team of 1,100 people. The estimated value of the company is around 5.5 billion dollars.
