Sudden change in CriteriaCaixa. La Caixa Foundation has replaced its CEO, Àngel Simón, who assumed the position just over a year ago. Appointed when he held the presidency of Agbar and the vice-presidency of Veolia, Simón replaced Marcelino Armenter. In parallel, the foundation has appointed the president of Naturgy, Francisco Reynés, as a new member of its board and he will be named executive vice-president.

With Simón at the helm, CriteriaCaixa has carried out intense investment activity in several strategic sectors of the country, in line with the strategic plan approved until 2030 with the aim of increasing the gross value of assets to 40,000 million. The latest announcement was the acquisition of 20% of the Catalan multinational Celsa. However, a few days ago, CriteriaCaixa cooled this possibility and explained that the operation was still under analysis.

During 2024, Criteria made net investments worth 1,780 million euros with the aim of generating growth and diversifying portfolios. The holding's strategic portfolio represents 72% of the gross value of assets and is mainly composed of CaixaBank (31.22%), Naturgy (26.71%) and Telefónica (9.99%), reaching more than 21,800 million. On the other hand, the investment holding of La Caixa Foundation also has stakes in ACS (9.36%, with an investment of 936 million) and Puig (3.05%, with an investment of 425 million). In contrast, it divested in Cellnex (911 million).
