The best collaborations of Rosalía

After the premiere of La Fama, a preview of Rosalía's third album, we remember her best duets so far to close out 2021. The list is long and productive, an appetizer while we await the highly anticipated Motomami, her new album that will see the light this 2022.

10.- You Will Forget Her, with Billie Eilish

Expectations killed this song, but how could they not? Rosalía alongside one of the world's biggest pop stars, Billie Eilish. Furthermore, it was recorded so many months before being shown to the world that rumors about the possible lack of connection between Eilish and Rosalía in the studio were a given. Finally, the song was part of the soundtrack for the second season of Euphoria, and You Will Forget Her, its title, quite faithfully described the feeling we were left with after listening to it.

9.- Blinding Lights (Remix), with The Weeknd

Let's break it down: collaborating with The Weeknd, and even more so on an artifact like Blinding Lights, will always be a good move. The problem is that this song, possibly one of the biggest pop hits of the last five years, was already more than amortized by the time the remix appeared. With Rosalía's participation, it's still great, of course, but it doesn't add anything remarkable beyond the anecdotal interplay of voices and the appearance of the Spanish language.

8.- TKN, with Travis Scott

The most street-smart Rosalía, in tune with the new school of North American rap. If the Catalan needed a boost in the land of the free, nothing better than doing it hand in hand with what is probably its most brilliant star today, Travis Scott. Accompanied by a magnificent music video, a work by the Barcelona production company CANADA, it is the most cinematic Rosalía, telling stories of love, secrets, and mafia, embracing in fiction the trope of street rap and organized crime.

7.- Last Night, with Bad Bunny

It was a matter of time before it happened, and it finally did. In the encounter between Bad Bunny and Rosalía, so many sparks flew that there was even speculation about a possible relationship between the two, especially given the romantic gestures between them in videos and television appearances. The song, a reggaeton track about an unforgettable night, may not be among the best works of either artist, but it is very well-rounded; in fact, it is their second most-listened-to song ever.

6.- Yo x ti, tu x mi, with Ozuna

In the year of her big international breakthrough, 2019, Rosalía seemed to hit every shot. A good example is this Yo x ti, tu x mi, a reggaeton with a decidedly pop soul. With a recognizable beat and its unbeatable chorus in a boy-girl dialogue, the singer from Sant Esteve de Sesrovires once again teamed up with one of today's great stars of Latin music. A song that revolutionized the summer, appearing in mid-August to go straight to number 1 in Spain.

5.- La Fama, with The Weeknd

Rosalía had warned that she was a fan of bachata classics, that she liked Juan Luís Guerra, Frank Reyes or Romeo Santos, but La Fama has caught us all by surprise, mainly because of the accompaniment, again with The Weeknd. Not because both singers don't know each other, as we have already seen before, but for choosing this genre having one of the pop totems on the planet by her side. The result is, in any case, excellent. A plea against the dangers of fame and again an irresistible conversation. In addition, the video parody is wonderful.

4.- Linda, with Tokischa

More collaborations between Rosalía and women are missed, especially if they are like this dembow, a kind of mix between reggaeton and dancehall. It doesn't reach two and a half minutes, but it has everything: rhymes to crack up laughing ("today I'm on fire, I'm chucky, sweet, delicious like a cookie"), teasing that makes you blush ("The queen of this popola, we have the crown"), slang in abundance and feminist and LGBTI+ vindication. If Rosalía wanted an extroverted, uninhibited song to dance non-stop, none better than this one.

3.- Con altura/Brillo, with J Balvin

Con altura was probably the song that propelled Rosalía to international success; however, there is another collaboration with J Balvin even more amazing than this one, where Rosalía's role is rather testimonial. Brillo is a pop gem that also appears on the great masterpiece of contemporary reggaeton (the album Vibras). A flawless R&B, with Rosalía giving an unmitigated vocal demonstration and devouring the song without looking at who is next to her.

2.- Antes de morirme, with C Tangana

Everything started with you. Although it seems like an eternity ago, this is no more than five years old. It was her social debut, appearing in a song by someone who was not only an emerging artist at the time, but also her romantic partner. Evidently, Rosalía came from somewhere. Her name had been circulating for some time in the gossip circles of national flamenco and in the vicinity of the Taller de Músics, but nothing foreshadowed what was to come. For its symbolism and, above all, for how incredibly good this song is, it could not be missing here.

1.- Barefoot In The Park, with James Blake

We always like Rosalía, however if we had to choose just one, it would be this one: bringing her flamenco touch to a modern composition, seeking, and finding, what makes her different from all other pop singers today. This piece is a delight, released in the middle of Rosalía's tour of America and which paired her with a first Anglo-Saxon star, of whom she had also recognized herself as a fan several times. A deep, delicate, hurtful song in which the Catalan singer exploits her best register.
