The Barcelona Science Park (PCB) has attracted a total of 25 companies during 2021 and the first two months of 2022, a record figure in its history and a sign of the dynamism experienced by the health sciences sector in the Catalan capital. The new companies occupy about 1,500 square meters destined for offices and laboratories, and add more than 110 workers.
The total investment to adapt the spaces for the arrival of these companies was 1.9 million euros. Currently, the park has filled almost all the spaces it already has conditioned, specifically, 92%.
"The park has closed a record year and begins 2022 with a very strong pace of incorporations," explains its director, Maria Terrades. Both spin-offs from research centers and hospitals and startups have been incorporated, as well as consolidated companies that bet on the center or foreign companies that decide to install their European subsidiary in the PCB.
Some of the companies that have joined the PCB are those that integrate the new accelerator that it has promoted in collaboration with the Barcelona City Council, BCN Health Booster. This is the case of Aptadel Therapeutics, MiMark Diagnostics, Nuage Therapeutics and OneChain Immunotherapeutics. AdBio Partners, Devsynthesis, Draconis Pharma, Fertinagro Biotech, IMIDomics, Inbrain Neuroelectronics, Labin, Millhouse International, NIVD-BCN, oloBion, Omniscope, Real Deal Milk, Rejuveron Senescence Therapeutics, Seritech, Solitek, Tyris Therapeutics and Zip Solutions have also joined the complex.
Promoted in the mid-nineties by the University of Barcelona (UB), the construction of the PCB on the Diagonal campus began in 1998, with the inauguration a year later of the first building, one of the towers that make up the complex. It was not until 2012 when the architectural project was completed, with the construction of the last building, Cluster II.
This last building has been one of those that has been recently conditioned and still has a little free space, specifically, 11% of its total surface.
