The Barcelona pizzeria Sartoria Panatieri is the best in Europe outside of Italy

The establishment of chefs Rafa Panatieri and Jorge Sastre, opened five years ago, has also won the special award for best pizza of the year according to the '50 Top Pizza Europe' guide.

The Barcelona pizzeria Sartoria Panatieri is the best in Europe outside of Italy. This is accredited by the most influential Italian guide in the world of pizza, 50 Top Pizza Europe, which this Wednesday announced the ranking from Barcelona. Second place is occupied by the establishment Baest, in Copenhagen, Denmark, and third by 50 Kalò, in London.

Spain is the most represented country in the guide ---which already includes 33 countries---, with a total of 17 pizzerias; followed by England with 16, Germany with 15 and France with 13. The top 5 is completed by the pizzeria Via Toledo Enopizzeria, from Vienna (Austria), in fourth position, and Pizza Zulú, from Fürth (Germany), in fifth. In sixth position appears the Madrid pizzeria Fratelli Figurato, and in tenth another Barcelona one, La Balmesina.

Located on Encarnació street, in Barcelona's Gràcia district, Sartoria Panatieri is an establishment run by Rafa Panatieri and Jorge Sastre, and has also won the special European award Premio Latteria Sorrentina for the best pizza of the year 2023, for a pizza that combines cooked charly tomato sauce, mozzarella and basil hollandaise.

Since its opening in 2018, Sartoria Panatieri, which now has two restaurants, has consolidated itself as the benchmark for pizzerias in Barcelona thanks to a philosophy based on the use of local products, as well as a careful artisanal preparation of all pizzas. "We are very proud to have been named the Best Pizzeria in Europe. This award is a recognition of the dedication we put every day into Sartoria Panatieri since we opened 5 years ago with the intention of fulfilling a dream that today we have been able to achieve thanks to the work of the entire team," they explain from the premises.

"The inspectors of this prestigious ranking have highlighted the quality of the ingredients used by Sartoria Panatieri, as well as the technique and know-how of its team of chefs. Likewise, they have highly valued the variety and originality of its pizzas, which range from classics such as its margarita made with Tomato, mozzarella and basil to the most innovative and creative, such as the one made with sobrasada, Mahón cheese, wild fennel, honey and mozzarella," adds Sartoria Panatieri.

Barbara Guerra, Albert Sapere, and Luciano Pignataro, Italian ideologues of 50 Top Pizza, underlined their "enormous gratitude to the city of Barcelona for the incredible welcome we have received" from the moment they decided to hold the European ranking ceremony in the Catalan capital.

Rafa Panatieri and Jorge Sastre have worked in some of the best and most renowned restaurants in the world. They met while being part of the Roca brothers' team. From there they moved to the restaurant of the former Barcelona hotel Omm, at the Roca Moo restaurant, and in 2018 they teamed up to create their most personal proposal: Garden Pizza, the germ of the current Sartoria Panatieri.
