Telefónica's 5G network already reaches 81% of Catalans

This new technology is expected to revolutionize not only the way people communicate, but also the industry. It will enable ultra-fast connectivity for millions of devices, making possible the creation of an infinite number of new services and technological solutions.

Telefónica has exceeded its initial goals for deploying 5G in Catalonia and will close the year covering 81% of its population. Currently, this new generation of mobile telephony is already available in 200 Catalan towns.

5G technology is reaching both large and small towns throughout the territory, including the four provincial capitals and cities and towns such as L'Hospitalet de Llobregat, Badalona, Martorell, Terrassa, Sabadell, Manresa, Igualada, Reus, Cambrils, Salou, Roses, Llançà, Pals, Balaguer or Mollerusa.

The territorial director of Telefónica in Catalonia, José Manuel Casas, points out that the company's commitment is to guarantee the deployment of 5G for everyone. "We have already exceeded the planned objectives for this date and with this we promote the digitalization of the country, SMEs, public administrations and citizens," defends Casas.

For the initial deployment of 5G, Telefónica is working with the latest generations of radio that allow dual 4G and 5G use, with the aim of bringing this new technology to the maximum population initially. This is being done through current sites and infrastructures and, in the medium and long term, it will be complemented with new base stations and small cells, depending on the capacity or coverage required.
