The multinational Teladoc Health, specialized in virtual medical care, decided to locate the headquarters for its international division in Barcelona, with which it serves markets beyond the United States. It did so after the 2018 acquisition of the Catalan company Advance Medical, founded and led by Carlos Nueno, who became the president of the division covering countries in Europe, Asia, Canada, Latin America, Australia, and New Zealand.
The digital health company has deepened this commitment to the Catalan capital with the launch of its first digital hub in Europe, following those it already had in Argentina and India. In innovation centers like the one in Barcelona, located on Via Augusta, they are dedicated to developing mobile applications, telemedicine software for hospitals, or solutions for data management and artificial intelligence applied to health.
The Barcelona digital hub is expected to be the most relevant of Teladoc Health's international innovation centers. According to Nueno, it is expected to reach 100 employees by the end of the year. They are looking for software engineers and developers, user experience (UX) designers, and data and analytics experts. Currently, the team consists of 40 employees, mostly engineers.
From the Catalan capital, Teladoc Health has also developed a digital health platform that serves ten million clients in Spain. In fact, the city concentrates most of the 800 employees the company has in the country. The international division led from Barcelona invoiced 288 million euros in 2022, a figure that represents 12.7% of the company's revenues and has registered an 18% growth. In total, the turnover stood at 2,270 million euros.
