Stark Future will produce 62,000 electric motorcycles in Barcelona in 2023

Orders for the first Stark Varg model, an electric motocross bike, are boosting the forecasts of the brand created in Sweden in 2019, but established in Catalonia to design and produce its range of electric vehicles

The MX Golf Park motocross circuit, planned for the old golf course in Sant Feliu de Codines and promoted by enduro rider Marc Sans, was the chosen setting for the company Stark Future to test and launch the prototypes of its first electric motorcycle, the Stark Varg, a motocross model.

That event, which featured the participation of riders like Sébastien Tortelli and Josh Hill and took place in mid-December 2021, was the starting gun for a business that Anton Wass and Paul Soucy —professionals linked to motocross and the motorcycle industry— projected in Sweden in 2019, but which they based from the beginning in Barcelona, specifically in Viladecans, where they established their headquarters and production.

"We are at the gates of a progressive and forward-thinking city: Barcelona," company sources explain to The New Barcelona Post, while valuing Catalonia's position, its riders, and its fan base in various sports modalities. The company's founders had the support in the project of the growth equity investment firm Kichi Invest, based in Stockholm, which supports unlisted Nordic companies.

Now, six months after the demonstration on the tracks, orders are soaring. Stark Future's purpose was to produce 5,000 units of the Stark Varg per year, but "in 24 hours we sold nearly 1,000 bikes through our platform, and now we are already at 11,000," the aforementioned sources state, specifying that later, the models will be available at specialized dealerships.

Relocation and expansion in Sant Boi

As the first units are to be delivered during the fourth quarter and reach 4,000 motorcycles sold by the end of this year, Stark Future must move to new facilities and has leased a 20,500 m2 warehouse located in the Prologis Park platform in Sant Boi de Llobregat, in an operation managed by the real estate consultancy Savills. The goal: to reach a production of 62,000 motorcycles of this motocross model starting in 2023. The investment is around 20 million euros.

The Stark Varg is a motorcycle for professionals but also for amateurs because "it is very versatile and fun," assures the brand, highlighting its "advanced technology and great power." The motorcycle can produce a maximum power of 80 HP and has a range similar to that of a standard 450 cm3 motocross model. According to market sources, the selling price is around 12,000 euros.

While the units reach the end user, the brand is working on the design of other electric motorcycle models for on and off-road, because it wants to offer a complete range of electric technology vehicles, but using sustainable materials and guaranteeing high-performance features, the brand points out.

The company recently closed a contract for the supply of composite material parts with Artificial, a company from Burgo de Osma (Soria) that until now manufactured this type of product for the aeronautical sector. The chassis of the Stark Varg is composed of a combination of carbon fiber, magnesium, and aerospace-grade aluminum.

For design and production in Barcelona, coordinated by operations director Andrés Espuelas, 40 people work, including the sales team for Europe, the United States, and Australia–the latter being one of the countries that has generated the most demand—. In addition, there is a team of 20 people working for the brand in a subsidiary company in Croatia, where electronic systems are developed. Stark Future also haspartnersin the United States and Australia for the logistical distribution of the motorcycles.

The company's team does not stop researching and developing technical solutions for performance, mobility, function, battery energy, and sustainability, according to Stark Future officials.
