Sharify, the app to know what to do in Barcelona

With the help of an interactive map, the app shows you the day's plans in the city: from beers with some neighbors from Gràcia to an art exhibition at Macba

"What's happening right now near me?" That's the question Gemma Prenafeta asked herself while on Erasmus in Bologna. When she returned to study International Business and Marketing at Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona, she knew her final degree project would aim to answer that question. "The moment immediacy arrived in the delivery sector, it was a boom. The moment immediacy arrived in the transport sector, it was also a boom. The moment is now." With the desire to be the boom of the leisure sector, Prenafeta created Sharify in 2017, an application that allows users to know in real time what events are happening in a city.

Companies, public entities, and individuals are free to share their plans on an interactive map that aims to gather the best plans from the main cities of the world. From beers with neighbors in Gràcia to an art exhibition at Macba, passing through a yoga class in Barceloneta or the Sants festivals. Everyone is free to choose how they want to spend the day in their city and share it with their acquaintances. "50% of our use is for a last minute discovery. I open the map and I want to know what I'm doing now," explains Prenafeta. For the entrepreneur, her project makes "more sense than ever" after the pandemic.

The Sharify map gives the user the option to filter by day, time, type of event (musical, sports, etc.), whether it is online or in-person, and by who organized it (company or individual). In addition, it also allows viewing the area in tourist or local mode, with small variations that allow foreigners to discover the best corners of the city. And in the purest social media style, it reserves a community space to create groups with friends to share plans and meet new people. Apart from the map option, there is also a space in the form of an agenda with a prominent variety of longer-term scheduled events.

Prenafeta's map is available in 100 cities globally and the agenda can be consulted in the 50 largest cities in Spain. Among them are, of course, Barcelona and Madrid. Now, the Sharify team has launched two pilots in London and New York. In the Big Apple, it has partnered with Revel, a shared-use motorcycle startup. "They will find events on Sharify and will be able to get to them with Revel," says the CEO about the collaboration with the emerging company. Regarding partnerships, the largest one signed so far has been with Ticketmaster. Thanks to this alliance, users will be able to buy passes for the events they want to attend without leaving the application.

Today, Sharify has more than 150,000 views per month. Its team consists of six people (including three engineers) who work in shared offices in Barcelona Activa. So far, they have managed to raise half a million euros in funding. And today they are preparing a new round.
