The prevention of occupational risks is currently a priority for companies and many governments. In Catalonia, one of the main objectives of the Generalitat is to reduce the levels of occupational accidents and promote the quality of occupational risk prevention, through tools such as the Catalan Strategy for Occupational Safety and Health 2021-2026. At the same time, to continue improving working conditions and occupational health, the Government is already working to present and implement a new strategy starting in 2027.
Despite the good dynamic generated in Catalonia in recent years towards occupational safety, not all companies have the tools to prepare and develop the necessary plans to guarantee it. That is why different initiatives have been emerging for years with the aim of helping companies prevent risks. This is the case of SePrA, the only External Occupational Risk Prevention Service accredited in Catalonia. This cooperative champions the conviction of integrating occupational risk prevention into production systems with the aim of generating occupational health.
That is why SePrA's activity and services are based on three fundamental pillars: worker care, support, and reception. Regarding care, this includes services such as medical examinations for workers, strategies for the successful reincorporation after sick leave, conflict management, or psychological and emotional services. This is complemented by support for companies with services such as the evaluation of both physical and psychosocial risks, coordination of business activities, training for workers on topics such as leadership, prevention, or gender equality. The company also offers reception services to create safe and comfortable spaces for workers, which includes the preparation of emergency, safety, and health plans.
To evaluate the occupational risks of any company, SePrA has also developed ARIPSO, an Easy Reading questionnaire designed so that all employees of a company ---including those with special needs--- can participate and express their level of well-being. The method consists of a series of questionnaires carried out through tablets that ensure the anonymity and confidentiality of the workers. With the data obtained, companies can know the reality of their workers in areas such as workload, stress, labor relations, or emotional and social well-being.
Occupational safety with a gender perspective
And SePrA goes further. From the cooperative, the view of occupational risks is taken from a gender perspective, through the project With Perspective. This analyzes how working conditions can affect people according to their gender and states that looking solely from a neutral perspective can make specific risks for women and diverse groups invisible, and how structural inequalities such as occupational segregation, the wage gap, or differential exposures to risks can affect different workers. With the aim of addressing these specific risks, SePrA has developed a comprehensive guide on occupational health with a gender perspective, to fill gaps detected in this area and prevent them from being left uncovered again.Add The New Barcelona Post as your preferred Google source for free
