Under the motto "Because, when we like something, one time is not enough", the Sala Versus Glòries has announced its program for the upcoming season. This is the ninth consecutive season programmed by Apunta Teatre, led by directors Jofre Blesa and Ramon Godino.
The presentation comes at a time of celebration for the venue on Castillejos street, which has posted strong results during the 2025/26 season: a total of 12,500 spectators attended performances at the venue, reaching an average occupancy of 71.14%, which represents an increase of 11.4% compared to the previous year.
To give continuity to this cultural project, the venue presents a program made up of 11 productions. The season combines 7 revivals of plays that sold out in their previous runs, 3 proposals from other companies, and the premiere of a new self-produced comedy, without forgetting the special Christmas program and the fifth edition of its cycle dedicated to movement and Dance.
The return of audience favourites
The main program of this new season at Sala Verus Glòries consists of those productions that previously sold out in previous seasons. The one in charge of raising the curtain from August 5 to September 13 is Angle mort, the comedy co-written by Roc Esquius and Sergi Belbel. This show reaches its fifth season and has already become a phenomenon of small-format theater. The plot is set in two simultaneous spaces (the waiting room and the office of a small start-up) where an employee's dismissal spirals into a surreal and unpredictable situation.
In autumn, from September 30 to November 1, one of the most awarded musicals in the local circuit will arrive: Un refugi al sol, a production by Apunta Teatre and Companyia Gèminis directed by Jumon Erra and Pol Sanuy, with text by Erra himself and musical composition by Mireia Morera. Based on the Diary of a Soldier by Pere Belart, the work explores the contrast between today's young people and the generation that lived through war and fascism. This show has won the Revelation Award at the Premis de la Crítica Recomana 2025 for Mireia Morera and a nomination for Best Local Musical Show at the Barcelona Theater Awards.
The tandem formed by Roc Esquius and Sergi Belbel will return to the stage from November 4 to December 6 with the revival of The Toaster. This comedy deals with current problems such as the housing crisis, gentrification, speculation, and social distance from a perspective of humor and satire. The plot revolves around the irruption of an smart toaster into the lives of three neighbors (played by Antonio del Valle, Ramon Godino, and Laura Pau). The play highlights how human beings end up creating emotional bonds and outsourcing their judgement to technology.
From December 8 to 13, Lulú, primera nit, a show by the company Roberto G. Alonso, which returned to the stage last season after 14 years to mark the formation's 30th anniversary, will return to the stage. The proposal uses the mythical character created by Frank Wedekind at the end of the 19th century to talk about desires, taboos, and perversions that society often hides.
Immediately after, from December 17 to January 10, music will return to the hall with Tu, jo... i vosaltres... i les cançons... In 1996, the show that saw the birth of the company El Musical Més Petit premiered in the same hall. Now, three decades later, Daniel Anglès and Pilar Capellades return to where it all began accompanied on the piano by Sergi Cuenca to offer an intimate recital that reviews the great songs of musical theater with maximum proximity to the audience.
Already at the beginning of 2027, from January 13 to February 7, the hall will host the return of El lladre de llibretes, a monologue performed by Albert Triola under the direction of David Pintó i Codinasaltas. This stage adaptation of the novel by the Italian author Gianni Solla (with a translation by Pau Vidal) is a poetic story about emancipation through reading, the transformative power of culture, and the strength of friendship.
Finally, as a closing to this block of great successes, from May 12 to June 6, Sala Versus Glòries will recover for a third season Pols de diamant, one of the most acclaimed texts of recent Catalan dramaturgy. Written by Pau Coya and directed by Nelson Valente, the show stars Dafnis Balduz and Albert Salazar. This text explores human contradictions and the social stigma surrounding lies in situations of extreme vulnerability. It has accumulated a prestigious track record: Award for Best Proximity Show at the Premis Teatre Barcelona 2024, Award for Best Revelation Author for Pau Coya at the Premis de la Crítica 2024 and Award for Best Text at the Torneig de Dramatúrgia de les Illes Balears.
New comedies, satire and theater for the whole family
Beyond these revivals, the billboard of Sala Versus Glòries also makes room for political reflection, first premieres and proposals for family audiences. From September 16 to 20, the Valencian comedian Xavi Castillo will present in Barcelona his new show Apocalipsi fatxa!, a production by the company Pot de Plom Teatre. The comedian offers an exercise in sharp political satire to analyze the current panorama and the growth of the extreme right globally.
The Christmas program will have a family character with the premiere of El rei oblidat, a text by Elna Roca produced by Altres Direccions that can be seen from December 19 to January 3, and will have special morning performances. The play recovers the legend of Artaban, the fourth wise man that history has been forgetting throughout the centuries, to sign a comedy interpreted by Emma Clarke and Oleguer Falguera. A tribute to all those anonymous people whose names history has forgotten.
February will bring one of the season's big bets by Apunta Teatre. From February 10 to March 31, the Catalan version of Canadà will premiere, a comedy written and directed by Alícia Serrat that arrives in Barcelona after its premiere in Madrid. The plot starts from a surreal premise: the imminent fall of a meteorite on Canadian territory. The President of the Government must address the nation, but the broadcast quickly goes off the rails when he finds himself isolated with the worst possible company to manage a moment of global crisis.
From March 31 to May 9, the theater will present Progressa adequadament, a comedy written and directed by Edu Pericas and produced by NEXT. The play stars two reference names of the Catalan scene, Anna Barrachina and Jordi Díaz, and poses an apparently trivial confrontation: an exam review where a father demands the half point his daughter needs to pass, while the teacher flatly refuses to award it. This academic conflict will evolve into a discussion about educational values, parental frustrations, and the limits of negotiation.
More space for dance
Contemporary dance will continue to play an important role within the theater's program. The venue will once again organize its specialized cycle #EnDansa, which will reach its fifth edition in July 2027. The program will focus on the work of a resident company, to be selected through the venue's open call.
True to its motto, Versus Glòries proves that when a show truly connects with audiences, it's worth bringing it back. The new season offers the chance to rediscover acclaimed productions, enjoy new creations and celebrate Catalan theatre all year round.
