New member in the very small club of Catalan companies whose annual turnover exceeds 2,000 million euros. The industrial group Roca, the world leader in bathroom equipment, closed the 2021 financial year with a turnover of 2,053 million euros after registering a growth of 21.9%, which allows it to widely exceed pre-pandemic figures. Before the health crisis, Roca set its historical billing record, with 1,861 million euros in revenue in 2019. This figure fell to 1,684 million in 2020, and now sales have surpassed the 2,000 million barrier thanks to the recovery of activity. The family group based in Barcelona reaffirms its position on the podium of the largest Catalan companies; companies such as Grifols, Catalana Occidente, Celsa, Puig, Mango, Vall Companys, and BonÀrea also bill above 2,000 million, all of them surpassed in size by large corporations such as Naturgy, Seat, CaixaBank, and Banco Sabadell. The rise in sales, cost containment, and "process optimization" have also boosted Roca's profitability. Thus, according to the accounts approved by the shareholders' meeting, in 2021 the net profit has climbed to 179 million, a figure that triples the 60 million profit of the previous year. EBITDA reached 401 million. "The involvement and effort of the professionals who are part of the company have allowed us to close the year with very positive figures," explained the group's CEO, Albert Magrans. According to the executive, "this recovery has been achieved despite operating in a context of inflationary escalation due to the increase in the cost of energy and raw materials, and thanks to the search for excellence in all the group's operations."

According to Roca, Spain has remained the main market, with good performance also recorded in Brazil and India despite the devaluation of local currencies. In contrast, in China the company has been affected by "the tightening of credit policies."

In 2021, Roca executed investments of 124 million, 17% more, a figure that has been allocated to digitalization and the transformation process into an industry 4.0, to the sustainability plan ---it wants to achieve carbon neutrality by 2045--- and to the innovation area. It should be noted that Roca is one of the Spanish industrial groups with the most production centers, with a total of 77 factories and presence in 170 countries, where it has 21,500 employees. Selective acquisitions to strengthen key business areas and divestments in segments where it has given up competing due to not having sufficient size is another element that has characterized Roca's strategy in recent years.  Along these lines, in 2021 the leading company in sinks, bathtubs, and WCs gave a strong boost to the furniture manufacturing business with the purchase of 75% of the Valencian group Royo. The German company Sanit was also acquired, and a new sanitary porcelain plant was incorporated in Brazil. Conversely, the company divested its flat ceramic business, which was sold to the Mexican group Lamosa. In the past, Roca had also sold its heating and air conditioning divisions. Now, as a consequence of the war in Ukraine, Roca has also been forced toto cease the activity of the seven production plants it has in Russia, a business it plans to transfer to the management team it had in the country.
