The digital health company Punto Health has closed an investment round of 645,000 euros to transform the management and monitoring of Alzheimer's and other dementias, such as mild cognitive impairment. The operation has been led by the Barcelona-based fund Abac Nest, together with the Madrid-based Fondo Bolsa Social and the German Heartfelt Capital, in addition to business angels.

Punto Health, led by the industrial engineer from UPC and DonaTIC Revelació 2022 by the Generalitat, Anna Muñoz, is focused on the development of an integral platform driven by AI that improves the care of patients with dementia, as well as that of their families.

The company, which Muñoz co-founded in 2023 in London with software engineer Jack Eckersley, customizes resources based on the user, and offers care plans and recommendations on healthy habits, nutrition, and cognitive and physical exercises for patients. It also provides resources for each stage of the disease aimed at their family members and caregivers, who also have an interactive chatbot as a personal assistant.

"In 2030 there will be more than 78 million people living with dementia, so it's time to redefine cognitive care models," Muñoz has defended. The CEO of Punto Health has assured that the resources raised through this investment round will allow accelerating the development of the platform, with the aim of providing patients and their families "a trusted companion every step of the way."

Digital biomarker through speech

In addition, the company is validating an innovative digital biomarker integrated into its platform, which allows determining the progression of cognitive status through the analysis of spontaneous speech. It is testing this tool in collaboration with the Ace Alzheimer Center, created in 1991 by Mercè Boada and Lluís Tárraga and now positioned as a European reference in the diagnosis, treatment, and research of this disease and other dementias.

This digital biomarker aims to facilitate early detection and monitoring of the disease at each stage, within a platform that allows professionals to access data recorded by patients to facilitate clinical decision-making and provide comprehensive and personalized care. According to Abac Nest managing partner, Joan Pina, Punto Health has "unique technology" for Alzheimer's and other dementias, which are approached by the company with an "innovative focus," according to Heartfelt general partner, Joerg Rheinboldt.

"Punto Health's technology will improve the treatment and monitoring of Alzheimer's and other neurodegenerative diseases, with enormous potential to significantly improve the quality of life of patients, their families, and caregivers," remarked José Moncada from Fondo Bolsa Social. All of this with one goal: to empower patients to maintain their independence for as long as possible, as well as to offer advanced tools to professionals to optimize treatment to improve the quality of life for both patients and their families and caregivers.
