Christmas 2020 will undoubtedly be remembered for the circumstances in which it arrives, and it will have to be taken as indicated by the regulations and restrictions imposed by the Govern and the pandemic situation. And during these days of vacation and free time, take the best it offers us without putting ourselves and others at risk.
Cinema, both in theaters and streaming, is a good solution to change, as much as possible, that depressing wrapping of this Christmas and turn it into gift wrapping. There are several film titles that had been waiting for a suitable premiere for some time, and they are already announced with lights on the marquees. We propose some of them.

Wonder Woman 1984
The second part of the dazzling film directed by Patty Jenkins in 2017 arrives in Spanish cinemas a week before its global premiere, which its producer, HBO, has announced simultaneously in cinemas and on its streaming platform. The new adventure of Wonder Woman is once again played by Gal Gadot, that Israeli actress and model who is, in herself, a complete catalog of special effects. It is announced as a joyful, romantic, very exciting sequel that has an opening sequence that will leave its viewers perplexed and amazed.
Soul
Pixar's new and highly anticipated film, Soul, directed by that animation genius Pete Docter, has suffered several delays in its premiere and the producer Disney has finally decided to take it directly to its streaming channel, Disney+, on Christmas Day. As on other occasions, Pixar creates a sublime story full of beauty, humor and emotional intelligence, and has at its center a character, a musician who dreams of playing in a prestigious New York Jazz Club.
The Croods: A New Age
Pixar's decision to take its latest gem directly to streaming has prompted DreamWorks, its big competitor, to release its biggest bet of the year, The Croods: A New Age, a continuation of that story of funny cavemen that premiered in 2013, in theaters on the same date. It maintains its rhythm and adventure, its mischievous sense of humor and its small reflections on human progress, and is made in 3D that calls for a good movie theater.
Monster Hunter
Based on a popular video game, it enters Spanish cinemas in the second Christmas week. Its film adaptation was directed by Paul W.S. Anderson, very experienced in action, violent and spectacular cinema. The story does not give off subtleties, but adrenaline: the protagonists fight in a strange world against monsters of all types, sizes and conditions to survive, and at the head of the cast are the indefatigable Milla Jovovich and the irrepressible martial arts film actor Tony Jaa.
El inconveniente
A newly released Spanish film, directed by Bernabé Rico, which contains all the appropriate ingredients for these dates (although it also has some ingredients not so appropriate for children). A very moving story about the relationship of a young, entrepreneurial and unhappy woman with an old woman from whom she buys her house at a very good price in exchange for letting her live in it until her death, that is, "the inconvenience" of the title. The work of its two protagonists, Juana Acosta and Kiti Manver, is much more than profound and likeable: it is amazing and enriching.
And there are three films that, after doubts and postponements by their production companies, are finally delayed until 2021. The latest James Bond adventure, No Time to Die, directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga (who made that marvel titled True Detective); the version of Dune directed by Denis Villeneuve, with Timothée Chalamet and Javier Bardem, and the remake that Steven Spielberg has made of the famous musical West Side Story.
Three series
However, to compensate for this setback of the three great film titles that have escaped us this year (although it is to be hoped that not for many months), we propose three other newly released series in which viewers will not find a gram of Christmas spirit. They are tremendous, exhausting and hypnotic, and they are there, within reach of your remote control whenever you can point it at Netflix or HBO. Two are Spanish and the other American.
El desorden que dejas
Of intense intrigue and overwhelming drama, directed by Carlos Montero, Silvia Quer and Roger Gual, it narrates with a small temporal loop, as one replaces the other, the misfortunes of two young teachers in a small institute in a Galician town. Bárbara Lennie and Inma Cuesta, the protagonists, are subjected to a pressure and anxieties that stick to the viewer with the force and sordidness of burnt rice to the paella pan.
The Queen's Gambit
American series created and directed by Allan Scott and Scott Frank, although the star of the show is the young actress Anya Taylor-Joy, who plays Beth Harmon, an orphaned girl with prodigious virtues for playing chess. It is not necessary to be an expert on the board to immerse oneself in the intrigue and melodrama that grows chapter by chapter, as the magnetism of the story and its protagonist is dazzling. It has already gone around the world, but there is still time to get on board.
30 Coins
Unspeakable excess by Álex de la Iglesia full of terror, entertainment and sarcasm, and containing all those usual ingredients of his cinema. The story takes place in the Segovian town of Pedraza, two plot threads that tie it to the back room of the Vatican, where some forces of Evil prepare for the arrival of the Antichrist (a bit in the style of The Day of the Beast). With Eduard Fernández magnificent in the role of boxing priest and exorcist.
