Pepsico has already started the recruitment process for the launch of a global digital hub in Barcelona aimed at accelerating the digital transformation of the multinational food and beverage sector company. The company chaired by Barcelona native Ramon Laguarta is looking for "high digital capability profiles," such as data scientists, machine learning engineers, data engineers, service designers, and product managers. Currently, the company has already incorporated more than 45 people of fifteen nationalities into its new digital excellence center; 24% are women. The hub has been located in the same office building that houses Pepsico's corporate headquarters in the Spanish market, located in one of the buildings that make up WTC Almeda Park, in Cornellà de Llobregat.

According to Pepsico, the commitment to female talent will be one of the priorities of the Barcelona digital center, which aims to contribute to promoting STEM careers "with the firm objective of having a more diverse and inclusive organization." "PepsiCo has the firm objective of achieving gender parity in middle and senior management by 2025, and the hub aspires to become a benchmark" in this aspect, the group assures.

In a statement, the multinational owner of Pepsi, Alvalle, Lay's, Gatorade, Tropicana, and Quaker confirmed this Tuesday the decision to establish a global technology center in Barcelona that will incorporate 400 people by 2024 and will act as a driver of change for the company's internal culture. Part of the hub team will be located in the Basque Country, in Vitoria, a city to which Pepsico has also been historically linked as a result of the purchase of the KAS brand. In parallel, the group will launch another digital center in Dallas (Texas) focused exclusively on working for Pepsico's business in North America.

The hub team has already started working.

In the Barcelona center of excellence, the company's main global digitalization programs will be created and developed, and according to the firm, "it will be an incubator of solutions to stimulate an internal culture change that will help drive long-term innovation." "The digital hub will allow PepsiCo to drive its digitalization agenda, capture new opportunities, introduce changes in the way of working and address common organizational challenges such as reducing operational costs, improving time-to-market, accelerating innovation, developing customer experience and increasing organizational efficiency," says Athina Kanioura, Chief Strategy & Transformation Officer of PepsiCo Global. "In addition, it will focus on incubating and developing digital and data talent, which will help us drive the change we want in the company," adds the executive.

According to PepsiCo, Barcelona was chosen "for being currently one of the most important hubs in Europe thanks to its ecosystem made up of startups, technology centers, ICT companies and universities, as well as its ability to create and retain digital talent." Narcís Roura, general manager of PepsiCo in Southwest Europe, highlighted the "pride that the global PepsiCo hub is in Barcelona" and emphasizes "the magnificent opportunity it represents for the technological ecosystem and local talent."
