Merchants and restaurateurs on Paseo de Gracia want to compete this holiday season with online commerce by offering what cannot be sent in a package. The Asociación del Paseo de Gràcia will offer itinerant shows starting this Friday to encourage Barcelona residents to come to the city center to do their Christmas shopping in an environment decorated for the occasion.
Puppets and illuminated horses will travel up and down Paseo de Gràcia, while a gospel group will sing carols from the balconies of La Pedrera, Casa Batlló, and the Hotel Majestic. There will also be a nine-meter-high Christmas tree at the top of the street. Activities will take place from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays until the 25th, including the holidays of the Puente de la Purísima.
"We expect a very good Christmas, you can tell there's enthusiasm," states the association's president, Lluís Sans, after confirming the reactivation of commerce on Paseo de Gràcia with the purchases made for Black Friday. "We are clearly perceiving a good response, not only from Barcelona residents, but also from residents of the metropolitan area and the rest of Catalonia and Spain," he adds. The locals are accompanied by tourists, mostly European, awaiting the return of other visitors.
The Asociación del Paseo de Gràcia will offer itinerant shows starting this Friday to encourage Barcelona residents to come to the city center and compete with online commerceShoppers and tourists who have traveled to the city center this weekend have already been accompanied by the Christmas lights, another element integrated into Paseo de Gràcia's Christmas program. The shows will have a cost of 65,000 euros, with the sponsorship of Casa Seat, which will be complemented by the 150,000 euros that the entity allocates to illuminate the avenue.
This program of activities, designed by the company Pleasure for all audiences, comes to replace the Shopping Night, organized for years coinciding with the switching on of the Christmas lights. It had been reconverted into La Nit del Passeig de Gràcia in 2019 and had to be canceled last year. After this hiatus and the difficulties they had had in previous editions to fit the event into current ordinances and find sponsors, the Passeig de Gràcia Association preferred to stop celebrating it this 2021 and reconvert it into a set of activities spread over several days.
