The startup Pack2Earth has raised one million euros in a pre-seed round to advance its goal of replacing plastic with compostable materials. Investors such as JRV Holding, the US company Mondelez International, The Food Tech Lab fund, a group of investors from Esade BAN, and Brigantia Capital Investment participated in the operation.
Created in 2022, the startup also plans to raise another million euros by the end of 2024 with a seed round, with which it aims to scale its revenue, expand its offering, access other international markets, and strengthen its team, currently made up of eight people.
In this round, Pack2Earth has taken into account that investors share its vision of "contributing to improving the environment," according to Pack2Earth co-founder and CEO Françoise de Valera. Thus, they have not only prioritized obtaining resources but also that investors "are willing to help in this mission with their knowledge and contacts, whether from the food sector or other key sectors," such as pet food, horticulture, and electronic products.

and they opted to focus on the development of these materials given the quantity of plastic containers they found abandoned while carrying out these activities.Pack2Earth is currently processing two patents for its first bio-based materials: they are made from plant and mineral-based matter, and they compost at room temperature. Suitable for both dry and liquid products, they have a long shelf life, ranging from six to twelve months depending on the product.
When the life cycle of these materials ends, "ideally they should be disposed of in the organic waste bin," explains De Valera. However, if they end up in landfills, they become a toxic- and microplastic-free compost.
Both materials, which seal to each other, allow for the manufacture of flexible packaging in various formats and items made with molds, such as cups and parts for electronic equipment. The funding raised in this round will serve to accelerate the pilots the company maintains with about 25 companies, several of them from the food sector, and others from pet food.
