Barcelona reaffirms its leadership in the health and life sciences sector. The American technology giant Oracle inaugurated this Friday in the Catalan capital a European reference center specialized in serving its clients in the healthcare sector. The new Oracle Health Support Hub initially employs a team of more than 60 people and joins other similar centers that the multinational's health division has distributed around the world.
According to Oracle, the new facilities will allow offering "a complete and tiered support service to help customers solve their most complex problems with technical knowledge and advanced automation." Oracle highlights that this hub is aimed at its European clients involved in healthcare system modernization processes and the adoption of new technologies that allow improving results and patient care. The hub will provide assistance in designing systems that comply with strict data protection regulations, in addition to reviewing these clients' systems and applications to prevent incidents. 24/7 attention will be offered to reduce recovery time in case of incidents.
"Our goal is to accelerate new innovations and connect the healthcare ecosystem to improve the experience of patients and providers and add value from the patient's bedside to administrative services," said Travis Dalton, executive vice president and general manager of Oracle Health during the inauguration ceremony, which was attended by the President of the Generalitat, Pere Aragonès; the Minister of Health, José Manuel Miñones, and the Deputy Mayor for Economy of the Barcelona City Council, Jordi Valls. "With the creation of this new European Support Hub we can better meet the changing needs of our current and future customers, who continue to digitize their systems to improve the quality of their patients and staff," the executive added.
Pere Aragonès celebrated "Oracle's commitment to Catalunya" and highlighted that the new center "will contribute to opening new opportunities for collaboration and for the well-being and prosperity of all citizens." "We are proud that Catalunya is one of the most dynamic ecosystems with the most potential in research, innovation and technology in the health field in Europe," he remarked.
For his part, Minister Miñones underlined the importance of the digitalization process in the healthcare sector. "The pandemic showed us the importance of data in public health decision-making. A reality that has led us to commit to a Digital Health Strategy, to which we are allocating more than 800 million euros since 2021." "The installation in Spain of a hub like Oracle's is a great opportunity for the creation of highly specialized employment and the establishment of a digital innovation ecosystem in health that, without a doubt, is excellent news," he added.
"We are consolidating an alliance that will ensure that innovation, science, and health are prominent protagonists of Barcelona's present and future, both through the impulse of the public sector and through private sector investments, with centers like this one, where we are today. A city with more science and more health is equal to a society with more and better opportunities for all," concluded Jordi Valls.
