Opens the first specialized gravel bike store in Barcelona

The establishment, on Consell de Cent street, has involved an investment of two million euros

Given the surge in demand for gravel bikes, a modality that allows combining asphalt and mountain routes, businessman Oscar Alcaraz has opted to open Gravel Planet Store, the city's first specialized gravel bike shop. With the support of cyclist and multi-champion of the Vuelta Ciclista a España and several Titan Desert races, Roberto Heras, the establishment boasts a surface area of 1,300 square meters, spread over three floors, combining an exhibition area, repair and maintenance services, and a warehouse.

The store, located on Consell de Cent street, is working to have an offering of 50 models, with 200 units in stock and including different sizes, from a dozen gravel bike brands, among them Bianchi, Cervelo, Ridley, Cinelli, and Factor, for which they still need to overcome the supply problems that manufacturers are experiencing. Prices range from 1,500 euros to 12,000 euros, depending on the materials the bikes are made of, from carbon fiber, steel, or aluminum to titanium and wood.

To launch the store, more than two million euros have been invested and six jobs have been created. Alcaraz anticipates a turnover of five million euros this year, with the sale of about 2,000 bikes at an approximate price of 3,000 euros. The store aims to become the reference for all of Spain, with the goal of contributing to accelerating the market penetration of this bike modality, so buyers from other parts of the country will be facilitated with travel and accommodation in Barcelona when they come to buy one.

Gravel Planet Store is not the first time Alcaraz has invested in the cycling world. In 2012, he began marketing Brompton folding bikes. The Folding Bikes House store has become one of the city's main distributors of this brand, selling nearly half of those sold nationwide, with an annual turnover of two million euros and a portfolio of 7,000 clients. Previously located on Diputación street, this establishment has moved next to the gravel bike store. Between both stores, sharing some services, such as the workshop, they add up to a staff of 12 direct and 5 indirect jobs.
