Emily in Paris, Pinocchio or The Mother are some of the new movie and series titles that in the coming months will be available on Netflix dubbed or subtitled in Catalan. The entertainment streaming and subscription platform has announced this and has specified that it will dub or subtitle 70 new series and movies into Catalan each year, starting this 2022. The decision will allow to annually increase the offer in Catalan of subtitled international premieres ---generalist and far-reaching--- by about 200 hours and dubbed content for children and family audiences by 20 hours. The platform will also take this measure for the catalog it distributes in Galician and Basque.

The incorporation of the selected works will be done progressively over the next few months and until the end of the year, according to company sources, remaining permanently and with distribution for the 190 countries where the platform is present. The American company will be responsible for assuming the cost of dubbing and subtitling.

Until now, Netflix only had 30 works from its catalog available in Catalan, according to the latest BIAC from the Audiovisual Council of Catalonia, which represented 0.5% of the total works available on the platform, according to data released by the Department of Culture of the Generalitat. The report determines that Netflix has 3.88 million subscribers in Catalonia and that in the last year it increased its offer in Catalan, since in 2020 it only had 9 titles in its catalog.

Among the premieres that will arrive subtitled or dubbed into Catalan are the new season of the series Emily in Paris and the new film directed by Guillermo del Toro, Pinocchio. In addition, there will also be titles such as The Mother, Hustle and Sandman.

Netflix sources have assured that "we continue to strive to bring the best stories to everyone. This is one more step we are taking to promote the presence of Catalan, Galician and Basque in our service" and the selection "will continue to grow in the coming years".

Netflix's decision comes after months of conversations between the Department of Culture and the platforms to incorporate Catalan as a linguistic option in their services and is made public amidst the approval of the Audiovisual Law, now in parliamentary process in the Spanish Cortes.

Among the offerings to be incorporated into the Catalan platform is Pinocchio, directed by Guillermo del Toro and Mark Gustafson.
