In February 2016, Nestlé announced that it had chosen Barcelona to establish the headquarters of the multinational's new Global Digital Hub, a technology center that would serve the entire group in digital platforms, social networks, e-commerce, and digital marketing. Five years later, this announcement has not only become a reality but has reached very considerable dimensions by multiplying by twenty the initial 30 employees of the hub, which today employs 600 people of 50 different nationalities.
Despite the pandemic, in the last year, Nestlé's now-called Global IT Hub has incorporated one hundred new employees into its headquarters in Esplugues de Llobregat, although most of them are still teleworking and have not yet been able to meet in person. Nestlé highlights that its software factory has 40% women in leadership positions and that the hub acts as a true "digital transformation engine" for the world leader in the food industry as a whole.
The Global IT Hub in Barcelona serves all the group's subsidiaries and brands in software development as well as support, artificial intelligence, data analysis, and digital finance, among many other aspects. According to the company, "the most intense acceleration phase has already ended," referring to the fact that from now on the volume of hirings will decrease. However, the hub will keep its "constant process of searching for new talents" open to cover positions that may arise.
"Technology is, more than ever, at the heart of everything we do and we will continue to evolve in the face of the new reality and new ways of working; we will continue to seek professionals across the entire field of technology as a result of our passion for leaving a mark on people and businesses," explained Cristina Ghetti, new head of Nestlé's Global IT Hub in Spain.
Ghetti joined Nestlé just over a year ago from the Coca-Cola Europacific Partners bottling company and had previously worked at Kimberly Clark and AkzoNobel. Last October, she replaced Jelena Trajkovic at the helm of the Barcelona hub, as this executive, who was responsible for its creation in 2016, moved to the Vevey headquarters (Switzerland) to take up the position of director of information technology for the group in Switzerland.
