Mundimoto, specialized in the online buying and selling of second-hand motorcycles, has chosen Italy as the first European country in which to replicate a model already consolidated in Spain with a turnover of 60 million euros in 2022. The company will set up in Milan, where it will locate a warehouse of more than 25,000 square meters and hire 20 workers who will join the 280 it has in Spain. Borja Batlle will be responsible for piloting the arrival in the country, where they expect to sell some 4,000 motorcycles this year.
The company has invested 1.7 million euros in its arrival in Italy. The internationalization process has had the support of Cofides, which has contributed 700,000 euros through a co-investment loan. The company will allocate the resources provided by the state-owned commercial company to the acquisition of second-hand motorcycle stock.
"The motorcycle sector continues to boom in both Spain and Europe, so, given the dynamism of the sector, we believe it is the best time to continue with the company's growth and bet on one of the most prominent biker countries par excellence, such as Italy," explains the co-founder and CEO of Mundimoto, Josep Talavera. Until now, the company only sold vehicles outside of Spain to small dealerships in Central Europe, in markets such as the Netherlands and Germany, so the Italian landing represents a turning point in its four years of existence. In Italy, the model followed in Spain will be replicated, more focused on reaching the final consumer and locating a logistics point like the one it has in the Catalan capital, in La Verneda, and in Madrid.
Mundimoto's commitment is to digitize the buying and selling of used motorcycles, as is already done with cars, with the aim of making the process more efficient and reducing costs, as well as offering a more comfortable experience for customers. In this way, users who want to sell their motorcycle send them a couple of photos and the sales team proposes a price. If they accept it, they pick it up at home in a few days and pay for it instantly. They also handle the paperwork for changing ownership. On the opposite side, customers who want a motorcycle can consult the offer on their website, where they post ads, with all the information, photos, and videos. With motorcycles that have an average age of seven years, sales prices range between 1,000 and 25,000 euros.
"With the growth potential we see in Italy, we are convinced that it will become one of the keys to laying the foundations of our business internationally and consolidating our leadership position in Europe," Talavera remarks. The arrival in the foreign country will help accelerate results that increase exponentially year after year: in 2022, the company sold more than 15,000 motorcycles, 300% more than in 2021, when it was almost 4,000. For this fiscal year, Mundimoto aims to reach 30,000 motorcycles sold. New business lines launched by the company will also contribute to this growth, such as a rental service for days, weeks, or months, for both individuals and companies and freelancers.
