Mobile Week continues to grow and will reach 18 cities in 2021

The Mobile World Congress is held for only four days but its impact goes much further with initiatives such as Mobile Week, which aims to promote the digital empowerment of citizens with spaces for reflection, workshops and participatory activities.

The third edition of Mobile Week Catalunya, an initiative promoted by Mobile World Capital Barcelona (MWCapital) and the Generalitat, will reach 18 cities, counties, and territorial areas throughout Catalonia in 2021. Badalona, Vic, Figueres, Mollerussa, and Ribera d'Ebre will be some of the destinations of the next Mobile Week, which will be held between May and June. This initiative aims to bring technology closer to citizens and is one of the activities created to leave a legacy of the Mobile World Congress (MWC) throughout the year and not just during the few days the congress lasts.

Mobile Week will revolve around topics such as privacy protection, the digital professional skills demanded by the market, and the role technology plays during crises. MWCapital has recommended participants include proposals for hybrid activities, mixing virtual and in-person formats. All cities and territories have submitted a preliminary project with a brief outline of the format, content, and duration of the event, which will last between one and three days.

Mobile Week is an initiative promoted by MWCapital and the Generalitat.

Specifically, the locations for Mobile Week Catalunya 2021 will be Badalona, Mataró, Terrassa, Sant Pere de Ribes, and Vilanova i la Geltrú (Barcelona); Vic, Manresa, Igualada, Centelles, and Rupit i Pruit (Central Catalonia); Girona, Figueres, Llagostera, and Riudellots de la Selva (Girona); Lleida and Mollerussa (Lleida); La Seu d'Urgell (Alt Pirineu), and Ribera d'Ebre (Terres de l'Ebre).

Thus, it will grow by three locations compared to the 15 cities in the 2020 edition. Last year, it organized a total of 164 activities and had more than 5,300 registered participants. In Barcelona, the fourth edition featured 150 activities spread across the city's ten districts, with participation from the Barcelona City Council and some 200 collaborators, local entities, innovation spaces, and research centers, among others.
