MicroBank closed 2021 with a historical record in volume of operations. CaixaBank's social bank granted 107,222 loans last year, totaling 953 million euros, 5.8% more than in 2020. According to the entity, the segment that has grown the most, with a 46% increase, are small credits aimed at financing families with fewer resources who have difficulties accessing credit regularly. This type of financing has absorbed 57% of the total volume granted.

Thus, in the last year, MicroBank has formalized 86,859 microcredits, 28% more, aimed at families who urgently needed money to meet their payments. The total sum of these transactions amounts to 547 million (+46%). "In a year still exceptionally marked by the pandemic, we have continued to support entrepreneurs and low-income families to contribute to their recovery and promote the launch of new projects," says Juan Carlos Gallego, president of MicroBank.

The other 21% of the financing volume has been allocated to support entrepreneurs or self-employed individuals who have started new businesses. Specifically, 15,221 microcredits were signed for a total of 196 million. This figure is lower than that of 2020, which was atypically marked by the high liquidity needs of numerous businesses, severely affected by pandemic restrictions.

Finally, MicroBank allocated 22% of the total volume lent, 210 million euros (+36%), to the specific lines it has launched for sectors that carry out activities with social impact. Thus, the entity claims to have contributed to materializing 5,142 social economy, education, entrepreneurship, innovation, and health projects in the last year.
