Mercadona has made effective the delivery of 10,800 liters of Hacendado whole milk to the Red Cross of Catalonia, which are added to a first delivery of 21,600 liters in January. This donation is part of those being carried out as a result of the situation derived from the pandemic.
In total, it has delivered 1,652,000 kilos of food, both dry and fresh, and personal hygiene items from January 1 until today. These are added to the more than 3,000 tons delivered during 2020, the year in which the company doubled its donations.
"In four months we have already given 1,652,000 kilos of food, a figure that is equivalent to 54.4% of the total donations made during 2020. This represents for the company the satisfaction of carrying out our objectives of solidarity and social responsibility to help alleviate, as much as possible, the demands of the most needy people," says the Director of External Relations of Mercadona in Catalonia, Bernat Morales.
The supermarket chain collaborates daily with 156 social entities and charitable organizations throughout the territory, such as the food banks of Barcelona, Tarragona, Girona and Lleida and their collaborating entities, the Red Cross and the Banc de Productes no alimentaris La Nau, among others.
In addition, it has progressively expanded the number of supermarkets that make donations of products not suitable for sale, but suitable for consumption. In this way, since last September, all 250 stores it has in Catalonia participate.
