Mango has announced an investment of 42 million euros in its headquarters, which it has renamed Campus Mango and which will now have an area of 93,400 square meters. Half of this budget has already been executed with the renovation of the current buildings, among which is El Hangar, the design center of the group led by Isak Andic. The rest of the investment will be allocated to the construction of a new corporate building for offices. This new property will have an area of 20,000 square meters and construction will begin at the end of 2021, with the challenge that Campus Mango will be fully operational in 2024.
According to Mango's CEO, Toni Ruiz, the Campus Mango concept was born with the aim of turning the company's headquarters "into a motor of change for the organization," immersed not only in the challenge implied by the impact of covid, but also in the need to transform the company to adapt it to the rise of e-commerce, sustainability requirements, and new fashion buying and consumption habits.
"We want to promote a new work model that allows all our collaborators to work in accordance with the strategy of putting the customer at the center, a philosophy that must govern all our decisions and initiatives," explains Ruiz. According to the executive, the Campus Mango "will serve as a gateway to attract both national and international talent and enhance it through the optimal tools that professionals need to carry out their work, both through the design of spaces and the provision of the latest technologies."
From Palau-solità i Plegamans, Mango designs more than 18,000 garments and accessories each year, which it sells both online and through its network of stores in 110 countries. The company, 100% family-owned, has also recently installed an innovation center in Barcelona's 22@ district aimed at facilitating the attraction of talent, especially in the field of e-commerce.
New warehouse for e-commerce in Lliçà d'Amunt
Along with people, Mango's other great priority has always been logistics. In this area, the textile chain has undertaken a multi-million dollar investment in a macro logistics center located in Lliçà d'Amunt (Barcelona) where it has centralized all its operations in Spain. According to Modaes.es, this complex will now receive an additional investment of 35 million euros to execute a new expansion of 90,000 square meters, which will be added to the current 180,000 square meters. This new building, which will be erected on a plot adjacent to the current complex and was already planned in the initial project, will be used to centralize the preparation and dispatch of all orders that Mango receives online in 80 markets. This activity is currently carried out from Palau-Solità.
In 2019, the last fiscal year with available data, Mango invoiced 2,374 million euros, a 6% increase; 24% of this figure was already generated by e-commerce. After three years of losses due to the restructuring process, in 2019 the group returned to profit, with earnings of 21 million and an EBITDA of 194 million (+43.7%).
