In a year in which e-commerce has exceeded all forecasts, Mango responds by strengthening its logistics infrastructure. With an investment of 35 million euros, the Catalan fashion group will expand its logistics center in Lliçà d'Amunt by 90,000 square meters, from where it centralizes distribution to the more than 2,200 stores it has in 110 countries and supplies the eleven online business warehouses spread around the world.
This expansion, which will allow reaching a total area of 280,000 square meters, was planned in the initial design of the complex and the pandemic has not affected its scheduled calendar. Works have already begun and it is expected that a part of the new facilities will become operational during the second half of 2022. A year later, all new spaces will be at full capacity.
With these works, Mango will manage to reduce the preparation costs of the virtual channel by 25% and increase its garment management capacity by 10,000 more per hour, reaching the handling of about 85,000 per hour. The expansion seeks to be able to assume the growth of logistics derived from e-commerce, sending orders directly to the end customer from Lliçà; provide greater capacity and agility to the dispatch area, and support the group's new business lines.
"With the expansion, we will be able to give the center a totally omnichannel character, making the most of the current facilities and complementing it with more specific solutions for e-commerce," explains Mango's CEO, Toni Ruiz, in addition to automating certain tasks and addressing the increase that is being registered in the digital store.
Specifically, the warehouse will have a pouch sorter that will allow sequencing orders and automating the management of returns, an essential action for the online channel. It will also have autonomous mobile robots for internal movement within the center, providing it with flexibility. Finally, a shipping sorter will be added for dispatch management.
This is not the only investment Mango has announced recently. The group will disburse 42 million euros to expand its corporate headquarters in Palau-solità i Plegamans. Renamed Campus Mango, the headquarters will build a new 20,000 square meter office building and will have an area of 93,400 square meters.
