Lidl reaffirms its commitment to Catalonia and the metropolitan municipality of Montcada i Reixac (Barcelona), where its central headquarters for the Spanish market has been located since 2003. The strong growth experienced by the German supermarket chain has led to the implementation of a comprehensive remodeling plan for the company's corporate headquarters, located in the La Granja industrial park. The distribution group will invest 19 million euros in the project, which will culminate in the summer of 2022 and will practically double the available surface area.

Specifically, Lidl plans to add 12,000 square meters to its central headquarters, which will grow from 15,000 square meters to 27,000 square meters once the works are completed. After the remodeling, the corporate offices will have capacity to accommodate more than a thousand employees. Since 2003, the chain has invested 150 million in its complex in Montcada i Reixac, where it also has a logistics center that serves its commercial network in Catalonia and a store opened at the end of 2020.

"In recent years we have significantly improved and extended our network of stores and warehouses in Spain and we will continue to do so, which is why we need to adapt our organizational capacity to this new and demanding reality," explained the general director of Expansion and Real Estate of Lidl Spain, Imanol Zabala. "We are demonstrating with facts our firm and decided commitment to the Spanish market," added the executive, referring to the "ambitious expansion plan" projected by the chain, which now has a network of 630 points of sale and eleven logistics platforms in Spain.

The offices will have capacity for more than a thousand people.

The growth plan contemplates an investment of 1,500 million between 2021 and 2024, a figure that will be allocated to the opening of 120 new stores and four more warehouses. This year alone, the goal is to open 40 new points of sale. The subsidiary based in Montcada i Reixac now has a workforce of more than 17,000 people. Throughout Europe, the group has 310,000 employees and a network of 11,200 establishments.
