Despite years of delay, the future Sagrera station continues to advance and, with it, the surface area and its surroundings also begin to do so. The City Council has taken a new step to define one of the future neighborhoods that will take shape as the station progresses: it has approved the reparcelling project for the upper sector of Rambla Prim, an administrative step that, in practice, will allow the construction of more than 3,300 homes to begin in 2029.
Of these exactly 3,360 homes, 2,089 will be public, as explained by the mayor, Jaume Collboni, from La Verneda. The forecast is that in 2027 the constructions currently in the area will begin to be demolished, especially industrial buildings that have accumulated decades of waiting for what will be one of the city's great urban transformations in the coming years.
Specifically, it is the area between Ronda de Sant Martí, Pont del Treball Digne, Santander and Cantabria streets, Rambla Prim, Via Trajana and Jaume Brossa street. In it, these more than 3,300 flats will be built starting in 2029, which will be a fifth of those that will be built in the surroundings of La Sagrera: more than 15,000 flats will be exceeded, which will accommodate a resident population of up to 30,000 people, around the new park of nearly four kilometers over the railway slabs.
In parallel to the reparcelling and construction of homes in the Prim sector, the City Council will resize the basic public services in the area to adapt them to the needs of the residents of the future new neighborhood, where up to 8,500 people will be able to reside.
With these facilities and homes, the Prim sector aims to connect Sant Andreu and Sant Martí, becoming a new dynamic neighborhood hub. In fact, this is the only one of the nine areas affected by the redevelopment of La Sagrera that is located in the Sant Martí district, connecting with the industrial environment of La Verneda and Torrent d'Estadella.
To structure the new neighborhood, a new public square is planned around the Masia de Can Riera and Riera d'Horta, around which a set of buildings will be constructed to house future facilities and homes.
In total, the equipment hub will have 21,600 square meters, which will house a Municipal Nursery School, a health facility, a civic center, and a sports pavilion, which will be complemented by the expansion of the Salvador Seguí Institute, with the aim of covering the needs of the new neighborhood.
